Title: SME Hardware Reverse Engineers –
Company: Nightwing
Location: Arlington, VA
Duration: 18 Months, potential to extend
Must Haves
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Ability to obtain DHS Suitability
• 10+ years of experience in hardware reverse engineering or embedded systems analysis
• Deep expertise with OT/ICS and network edge hardware platforms
• Strong experience reverse engineering proprietary or undocumented systems
• Firmware reverse engineering experience using IDA Pro, Ghidra, or Binary Ninja
• Knowledge of embedded architectures (ARM, MIPS, PowerPC)
• Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and IoT devices
• Familiarity with hardware debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD, UART)
• Strong programming skills (Python, C, Assembly)
• Experience analyzing malware in hardware or firmware contexts
• Excellent analytical and technical communication skills
Plusses
• Federal cybersecurity or critical infrastructure program experience
• Invasive/non invasive hardware analysis (inspection, imaging, decapsulation)
• OT/ICS offensive security or penetration testing background
• Experience with SCADA, PLC, RTU environments
• Knowledge of critical infrastructure sectors (energy, utilities, manufacturing)
• Supply chain security or hardware implant detection experience
• System emulation or virtual hardware analysis experience
• GIAC or advanced reverse engineering certifications
• DoD 8140.01 IAT Level III or PMP
Day to Day Responsibilities
Insight Global is currently seeking an SME Hardware Reverse Engineer to join a client in the federal cybersecurity and government services industry supporting advanced incident response and critical infrastructure missions. This individual will conduct deep hardware and firmware reverse engineering of OT, ICS, and network edge devices compromised by sophisticated threat actors. Responsibilities include identifying embedded malware, hardware backdoors, and exploitation risks within proprietary systems. The SME will analyze firmware, communication protocols, and low level device behavior while collaborating with electrical engineers on chip off and invasive forensics. This role documents exploitation methodologies, defensive countermeasures, and technical findings for operational use. The SME will also train analysts, develop hardware forensics SOPs, and provide reach back support during active investigations.
