Linux System Administrator – Level 1
SALARY: 107-115K
Location:  Hanover, MD

Required Skills
• System administration experience with CentOS 7, Rocky 9, and RHEL 9, including upgrades for servers, workstations, and laptops
• Experience supporting Secure the Enterprise tasks
• Experience with the customer data transfer process
• Hardware installation experience for servers and workstations
• Strong Linux administration background

Desired Skills
• Task automation experience, including Ansible and PXE boot
• Virtual machine deployment using Proxmox
• Experience with Identity Manager, including integration with a CentOS‑based LDAP server
• Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification
• Experience troubleshooting and configuring Transport Layer Security (TLS)
• Windows 10/11 administration
• Linux networking experience

Position Description
Candidates must have five years of experience as a system administrator supporting programs and contracts of similar scope and complexity. A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution is required; however, an additional five years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.

This position provides support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems. Responsibilities include managing IT system infrastructure and executing processes associated with system operations. The administrator will support day‑to‑day activities such as monitoring, problem resolution, and overall system performance across client, server, storage, network, and mobile environments. Additional duties include providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 troubleshooting support, assisting with user access, and coordinating escalation and status communications with management and internal customers.

The role includes configuring and managing UNIX and Windows operating systems, installing and maintaining operating system software, ensuring system integrity, configuring network components, and implementing enhancements to improve system performance and reliability.

Core Responsibilities for a Level 1 System Administrator
• Provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems
• Perform Tier 1 and Tier 2 problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution
• Manage daily configuration and operational activities for IT systems
• Assist users with accessing and utilizing IT systems
• Support all client, server, storage, network, and mobile device operations
• Communicate system status and escalate issues as required
• Optimize system operations, resource utilization, and assist with capacity planning
