Position Overview
Develop and sustain software for the Air Force Modeling and Simulation Training Toolkit (AFMSTT). AFMSTT is a suite of Air Force models used in Air Force and Joint Battle-Staff Training. The software is written in a wide variety of languages.
Applies technical knowledge to assist clients in the design and development of solutions to complex technical engineering and applications problems, network challenges, or system administration issues. Establishes the basic structure of the system, defines essential core design features and elements that provide the framework. Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support application systems.
Responsibilities include: Full lifecycle software development to include software requirements analysis, software design, software implementation, software integration and test and system documentation.

- Work through full-cycle development that includes requirements analysis, design, & implementation.
- Apply software engineering standards and assists the engineering team in software system or subsystem development and documentation efforts.
- Interface with lead engineers regarding software component integration
- Derive software requirements from system-level requirements
- Decompose high-level software requirements (Epics) into component tasks executable within the Agile sprint time frame
- Identify, document, and repair software defects
- Design, code and debug applications in various software languages using object-oriented design where appropriate
- Understand and adhere to project schedules and stay within established budgets.
- Comply with program processes for software development and configuration management. This includes meaningful participation in Agile development process events such as scrums and sprint reviews
- Collaborate closely with other members of the software development and test teams
- Assist end users with helpdesk requests as directed
Provide on-site support for exercises and events involving AFMSTT
Required Experience/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, systems or software engineering from an accredited college or university or any bachelor's degree and two years additional software development experience. Master's degree desired.
- Minimum of 10 years' software engineering experience.
- Familiarity with industry software development standards and with the capabilities of related Department of Defense software systems.
- Software development experience using Java, C/C++, XML, UML and Linux
- Understand object-oriented design principles to apply them to development efforts appropriately
- Ability to test and debug
- Basic object-oriented software development in Java and C++
- System operations in Linux/windows to include shell scripting
- Employ version control tools (i.e., Git) in compliance with program configuration management processes
- Operate collaboratively in a development team environment
- Aptitude for learning new technologies such as programming languages and tools
- Written and oral communication skills sufficient to explain development issues to customer representatives
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
- Demonstrated software engineering experience in HLA federations, developing interfaces to military C4I systems and other training simulations
- Two (2) or more years of experience supporting military training events/exercises utilizing simulation-based training systems
- Experience developing software using any of the following technologies: Ada, Perl, DIS, HLA, JMS, JSON, Javascript (AngularJS, NodeJS), Pro*C, Typescript
- Secure systems

- Continuous integration
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools (e.g., Confluence, JIRA)
- Full-stack software development
- API design and implementation
Special Requirements/Security Clearance
- Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U. S. Citizenship status with ability to obtain a SECRET to TOP SECRET security clearance.
