ActioNet has an immediate opportunity for a Linux Administrator requiring a Public Trust. While the position is primarily remote, the client prefers candidates local to the Washington, DC area who can travel to the office as needed. Occasional travel—up to 20% annually—may be required.
The Linux Administrator will manage Linux platforms and containerized services across hybrid environments supporting NOAA’s Marine Operations. This includes working with real-time scientific data systems and associated technologies such as CORIOLIX, OpenRVDAS, and Globus to ensure reliable data capture, transfer, and processing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain RHEL/Ubuntu systems with CIS/NOAA hardening
Support Linux-based applications and real-time open-source data pipelines used in satellite and marine operations. Commonly used in marine environments, including technologies like CORIOLIX, OpenRVDAS, and Globus
Containerize and orchestrate services using Docker/Podman and Kubernetes
Implement configuration management and IaC using Ansible, Cloud-Init, and Kickstart
Monitor Linux system performance and troubleshoot system issues
Manage keys and secrets; integrate with AAD/Key Vault
Provide Tier 2 support for Linux-based scientific and shipboard workflows
Participate in post-cruise reviews and update runbooks quarterly
Basic Qualifications (Required):
5+ years administering Linux in production or hybrid environments
Strong experience with package management, systemd, SELinux/AppArmor, and TCP/IP
Proficiency with Ansible and shell/Python scripting
Clear communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CORIOLIX, OpenRVDAS, or Globus, including optimizing I/O in marine or shipboard environments
Experience supporting scientific, oceanographic, or data-intensive operational systems
