Duties
Help
  • Provides technical assistance to current and potential users to minimize disruptions of computer operations.
  • Provides formal and informal training for users and other technicians and administrators.
  • Tests and analyzes computer hardware and software malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems.
  • Analyzes, evaluates and resolves malfunctions by modifying equipment configurations, recommends appropriate acquisitions, and distinguishes between equipment, software, and LAN installation and operational problems.
  • Performs a wide variety of system administration duties to include the management of the integration of system fixes, updates, and enhancements.
  • Assignments involve providing specialized services or accomplishing projects which require application of a variety of techniques and methods to determine the best approach.
  • Provides advice to decision makers in setting program goals and establishing priorities to support the organizational mission.
  • Develops organizational policy and procedures for implementation of guidance from higher level authority and provides advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to management.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and coordinates assigned functions and briefs management officials on program status.
  • Evaluates impacts of new technologies on current systems and policies.
  • Assesses performance and effectiveness of new or substantially modified systems.
  • Provides guidance to lower level IT specialists. Serves as a member of boards, committees, and panels in support of special projects or programs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET SECURITY clearance.
  • This position requires IA Technical Level II certifications be attained within 6 months of assignment to the position and maintained thereafter. Incumbent may be required to pay annual recertification fees.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. BASIC REQUIREMENT: In addition to the specialized experience listed below, your resume must indicate IT-related experience demonstrating the four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail-develop organizational policy and procedures for implementation of guidance. 2) Customer Service-resolve problems with application programs. 3) Oral Communication-serve as a member of boards/committees/panels in support of special projects. 4) Problem Solving-evaluate the impact of new technologies on current systems and policies.

AND

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as assisting in the maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of computer systems. Uses diagnostic and utility software packages to analyze and perform computer and server maintenance. Assist in the installation of various types of network server systems.

OR

Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a nationally accredited university that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience described above may be used to meet the total qualification requirements at the GS-11 level. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
