POSITION SUMMARY

As a System Administrator III supporting the Enhanced Polar System Operations and Maintenance II (EPS OMII) program, you will be providing system administration functions in a limited, small-scale environment. Primary responsibilities include maintaining user accounts, troubleshooting basic network or system issues, and ensuring compliance with DoD security requirements. The role collaborates with a cross-functional team and will also provide space-enabled, secure communications capabilities to polar users to support national security objectives. This in-person role requires an active Top Secret (TS) Clearance with SCI eligibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Create, manage, and disable user accounts within established guidelines.
  • Assign and maintain appropriate user permissions, group policies, and security settings.
  • Perform basic system health checks, including log monitoring, disk space usage, and application updates.
  • Apply patches, firmware updates, and anti-virus definitions as required by DoD and corporate policies.
  • Investigate and resolve Tier I/II technical issues, escalating more complex problems to the appropriate depot.
  • Maintain accurate issue tracking in ticketing systems, documenting solutions and resolution steps.
  • Adhere to DoD security standards (e.g., DISA STIGs, RMF requirements) for account control, system patching, and network policies.
  • Collaborate with the Security Officer or ISSO to address vulnerability findings and maintain system accreditation requirements.
  • Update technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Generate periodic reports on system uptime, resource usage, and compliance metrics, as requested.
  • Provide backup support for related IT functions, such as basic networking tasks, inventory management, or hardware deployment.
  • Assist with special projects, system upgrades, or new rollouts on an as-needed basis.
  • Identify areas to streamline processes or enhance system performance within the limited admin environment.
  • Stay current on DoD regulations, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the role.
  • Functional Area Monitor (FAM): Responsible for potential oversight and assistance of assigned functional areas (safety, tools, security, administration, records management)
  • Support daily on-console payload operations.
  • Perform ground system and payload state of health assessments.
  • Operate the Control and Planning Segment (CAPS) to perform communications planning for EPS users and provide command and control of the EPS payload 24/7
  • Support operations on 8, 10, or 12-hour rotational shifts (depending on operational need).
  • Perform all job responsibilities of the Operations Manager as needed, based on availability
  • Fulfill on-call duties (as needed), such as responding to system outages, network issues, and user technical problems outside of regular work hours


EDUCATION/TRAINING
  • Required: IAT Level II Certification upon hire
    • CompTIA Security+ (preferred) or equivalent
  • Minimum: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Experience supporting DoD environments or similar regulated industries.

EXPERIENCE
  • 2-4 years of general IT experience, including 1-2 years of specific system administration experience.
  • Capable of autonomously performing all known tasks and ascertaining and addressing unknown tasks, conditions, and parameters.
  • Manages known processes, supervising, training, leading others, and developing those below.


SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Direct experience performing and managing Service Desk functions and responsibilities.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server administration, Active Directory, and common network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) is a plus.
  • Understanding of DoD cybersecurity requirements (e.g., DISA STIGs, NIST guidelines).
  • Comfortable managing permissions and group policies in a controlled environment.
  • Able to quickly identify issues, research solutions, and execute corrective actions.
  • Proactive in escalating complex problems to senior staff or vendors.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills for documenting incidents and SOPs and presenting findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Adept at working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks with competing priorities, especially in a small team environment.
  • Meticulous with record-keeping and documentation


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to use hands to handle or feel and speak with customers.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, stretch, kneel, squat.
  • Must be able to walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to carry up to 10 pounds at a time and push and/or pull 10-pound loads at a time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is an on-site position that requires work to be performed on-site at an Aleut location.
  • Working indoors in an office environment.
  • Potentially exposed to electrical or mechanical hazards, elevated work areas, and confined spaces.
  • Potential exposure to electromagnetic frequency radiation (EMFR).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
  • Must be able to pass random drug screenings.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance.
  • Must be able to be cleared for base or site access.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be available for a flexible work schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must hold a current IAT Level II CompTIA Security + certification (or equivalent)
