Senior Data Platform Engineer (Databricks & AWS)

Onsite | TS/SCI Required

A leading technology organization is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Platform Engineer to support, secure, and scale a global mission data environment. This role focuses on enterprise-level Databricks administration, secure AWS infrastructure engineering, and automation that enhances analytics capabilities for a large distributed user base.

This position requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.

Key Responsibilities

Administer Databricks environments including workspaces, users and groups, clusters, jobs, pools, and JSON-based configurations.

Monitor Databricks performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize platform reliability.

Manage AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC/networking, CloudWatch, and Lambda with a focus on security and high availability.

Develop Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or CloudFormation to automate deployment, reporting, and administrative workflows.

Support multiple Databricks instances serving a large global user community.

Lead efforts in platform integration, security hardening, operational readiness, and documentation.

Collaborate across Agile teams including engineers, analysts, and external partners.

Contribute to Agile ceremonies (sprints, standups, retrospectives) and maintain progress in Jira and Confluence.

Required Qualifications

Active TS/SCI clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years.

Demonstrated experience administering enterprise Databricks environments.

Strong AWS expertise across compute, storage, networking, databases, and identity services.

Proficiency in automation and scripting; ability to produce clear technical documentation.

Familiarity with classified cloud environments and security/compliance frameworks.

Security+ CE (or equivalent) required within 6 months of hire.

Agile/Scrum experience with Jira and Confluence.

Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to perform in a mission-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working within defense, federal, or highly regulated environments.

Containers and orchestration (Docker, ECS, EKS).

Programming experience with Python (Pandas, Boto3, PySpark, MLOps), Java, or Scala.

AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer.

Bash scripting, Jupyter notebooks, Power Query/Power Pivot.

Strong SQL including query tuning, execution planning, and indexing.

Familiarity with software design patterns (Client–Server, Microservices, MVC).

Exposure to multi-cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, Oracle).

CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitLab, and containerized build pipelines.
