Seeking a Test Conductor to support our Thermal, Propulsion and Cryocooler Systems (TPCS) department. As a member of the TPCS department you’ll work in a small team environment alongside design engineers, test engineers and technicians to test our liquid rocket engines. This position will serve on-site at the Northrop Aerospace Test Site (NATS) at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) on Edwards Air Force Base in Boron, CA. The site works 10 hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Overtime may be required to meet program objectives. Some travel to Redondo Beach, CA is required.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as the leader of test activities, coordinating between engineering, operations, and support teams to ensure smooth execution of test milestones.
• Develop, review, and approve test procedures, work instructions, checklists, and test readiness reviews in compliance with program and customer requirements.
• Conduct pre-test readiness assessments to verify all necessary resources, personnel, and equipment are in place and meet operational standards.
• Direct teams during test operations, ensuring all activities adhere to established protocols, safety standards, and schedule requirements.
• Monitor and interpret test data in real-time, identifying anomalies or deviations, and leading troubleshooting and corrective actions as necessary.
• Maintain accurate detailed logs of activities and data during testing and prepare test reports summarizing results, findings, and conclusions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure designs are testable and validate the performance of systems or components under test.
• Support risk assessments, hazard analysis reviews, and other safety-related initiatives tied to test processes.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by providing recommendations to enhance test efficiency and effectiveness over time.
Basic Qualifications for Test Conductor
• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 5 years of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware; OR Master’s Degree with a minimum 3 years of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware; OR High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) plus 9 years of combined experience supporting integration, test or assembly of mechanical hardware
• Proven experience with test procedures, data analysis, and troubleshooting mechanical/electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of test methodologies, instrumentation, and safety protocols.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create technical documentation and effectively relay test information to diverse teams.
• Able and willing to work in environments that require the use of Level B personal protective equipment (PPE), including supplied air line systems, in support of hazardous operations.
• Able to work in test and operational environments, including clean rooms, outdoor test facilities, and/or labs.
• Valid drivers license
• This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications for Test Conductor
• Experience conducting tests on liquid propulsion engines and systems
• Experience with hypergolic propellants
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and safety practices (e.g., OSHA, CFR, and ITAR compliance).
• Hands-on experience with hardware and instrumentation setup, including sensors, data acquisition systems, and monitoring tools.
