Duties

  • Provides customer technical assistance and support for all users of the operational and/or tactical environment.
  • Assist customer with fulfilling requirements and assists customers by recognizing and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs hardware devices supporting a broad range of information and communications systems on the operation network and/or tactical network.
  • Manages the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level and/or tactical environment for the unit.
  • Serves as a focal point for ensuring functionality and operability of the assigned IT/data systems/functions, voice and wireless systems to support mission requirements of unit.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to identify and analyze system failures and analyzes data to determine if trends exist which forecast the need for future replacement or modification of system hardware and software
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position conducts information assurance functions.
  • The incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program and will be required to obtain and maintain certification. Certification requirements are outlined in DoD Instruction 8570.01-M
  • The employee will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • This position requires military membership, compatible unit and Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) assignments, and the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance level which is based on the position security access requirement.
  • IAW DoD 8570.01-M you will have 6 months from date of hire to acquire the appropriate IAT, IAM or IASAE level certification designated by the position and/or supervisor.? Failure to do so may result in termination.

BASIC REQUIREMENT : Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (unofficial or official transcript(s) must be uploaded with application to meet this education requirement) OR IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade at the GS-09 level. Experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. Knowledge of applying analysis concepts to IT network systems and independent IT platforms, integration methods, performance tuning methods, test and evaluation methods and procedures, IT security principles and methods plus, project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment. Ability to analyze, apply methods and practices for recovering, adjusting and modifying IT systems to solve complex problems, while improving customer support practices, that minimizes interruptions in service. Knowledge of the interrelationship of multiple IT systems, utilizing methods, principles, and practices covering restoral from complex computer and infrastructure system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components. Knowledge of methods and practices involved in the integration of system components sufficient to optimize system performance.

    Education

    To receive credit for Education, you must provide transcripts or documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
    You may combine education with specialized experience to meet the length of experience requirement for GS-11. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the line of work. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

    For the GS-11 level: To qualify for basic requirement on education alone, applicant must have one of the following: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related

    Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-11 including qualifying with combination of education and experience.
