We are looking for a dynamic Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) Section Principal Engineer to add their organizational and engineering skills and experience to our team. The NH&S team provides specialty engineering and system integration support in the areas of nuclear hardness, nuclear survivability, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for sustainment of the MMIII Intercontinental Ballistic Missile weapon system. As the NH&S Section Senior Principal Engineer, you'll direct a diverse group of driven professionals who underpin the products and systems that support enhanced military capabilities, protect national security, and keep critical information and infrastructure secure. Primary Roles and Responsibilities for the NH&S Section Senior Principal Engineer are:
  • Lead the 18 person NH&S Section, to provide strategic planning advice and assistance to the ICBM Systems Directorate.
  • Interface with AF MMIII NH&S leadership to accept assignments and provide supported recommendations on nuclear hardness topics.
  • Maintain the highest deliverable quality for your team, as judged by the customer, by providing final review of products before they are delivered.
  • Maintain the highest deliverable timeliness, by monitoring all assigned tasks and completion status for your team.
  • Perform professional analysis and evaluation which requires in-depth knowledge and diversified application of nuclear hardness engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques.
  • Ensure execution of systems engineering and acquisition processes across the weapon system lifecycle, and provide in-depth reports on project status and progress measured against specific plans.
  • Maintain system hardness to nuclear environments, while MMIII is modernized and re-architected to extend its useful life, with support of subject matter experts on your team.
  • Maintain EMC of the MMIII ground-based, missile-based, and support equipment to ensure system reliability.
  • Maintain Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) design limits of the MMIII ground-based and missile-based equipment to ensure system safety.
  • Oversee a team to support the government with the transformation of paper-based documents to digitized and updated Hardness Data Manuals and Design Analysis Report (HDM/DAR) reference material products.
  • Research existing nuclear hardness reference information, hardness design techniques and methods, hardness requirement development, and hardness qualification test results to inform future action.
  • Support the Air Force acquisition process to ensure system hardness objectives and requirements are met.
  • Prepare technical data packages with a focus on nuclear hardness requirements, present data to both internal and external customers, and provide feedback to improve processes and work to meet hardness engineering objectives.
  • Prepare and brief the NH&S portion of the Minuteman III Weapon System Effectiveness Report to high-level AF leadership each year.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in nuclear hardness engineering disciplines and mentor junior engineers to assist in their knowledge development.
  • Support your team in their professional development.
  • Oversee the development and coordination of working group meeting agendas, scheduling of conference rooms and teleconferences, and the preparation and consolidation of briefing materials, meeting minutes, and answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electronic engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics.
  • At least 7 years of directly related experience (5 years with a Master's degree).
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in providing technical leadership.
  • Strong organizational, teambuilding, and verbal communications skills with a proven track record of building and maintaining strong customer and peer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in complex environments and challenging situations when there are several competing taskers.

Current Secret security clearance (adjudicated within the past 6 years) or higher and eligible to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance and all required Special Program accesses.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of ICBM weapon system sustainment engineering experience preferred but not required.
  • A Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Nuclear Physics plus eight years' experience as an engineer in a hardness-related field is preferred but not required.

Current Top Secret security clearance.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118504 - $201457

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
