Truestone, an Akima company, is seeking Engineering Technicians II to support maritime communications and modernization efforts. These technicians will assist in the installation and integration of shipboard wireless networking systems aboard Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels. The role involves physical installation, cabling, terminations, and testing under the direction of the site lead. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!

Responsibilities

  • Install and route fiber optic and copper cabling per engineering drawings and shipboard standards.
  • Perform cable terminations, labeling, and dressing in racks, trays, and panels.
  • Conduct basic cable continuity and signal testing using appropriate test equipment.
  • Assist with rack installations, component mounting, and equipment grounding.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Technician IV (Lead) to execute tasking and maintain project schedule adherence.
  • Follow all shipyard and safety procedures, including HAZMAT and confined-space protocols.
  • Maintain installation logs, cable counts, and daily progress reports.
  • Support system activation and troubleshooting under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years of shipboard, industrial, or structured cabling experience.
  • Working knowledge of fiber and copper cable routing, pulling, dressing, and termination.
  • Familiarity with Fluke/EXFO testing equipment and basic troubleshooting principles.
  • Certifications (required):
    • At least one Fiber Optic Installer/Technician certification (FOA CFOT, ETA, or equivalent)
  • Ability to read and interpret simple cable run sheets, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of obtaining a DoD Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in Navy, MSC, or shipyard environments.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime or shipyard safety training.
  • Basic understanding of wireless or network systems.
  • Experience working on multi-contractor or joint integration projects.
  • Copper Cabling certification preferred (BICSI or equivalent).
