The Fire Suppression Systems Technician serves as a senior-level technical expert in the inspection, testing, maintenance, programming, and repair of special hazard and clean agent fire suppression systems. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, leadership, and the ability to execute and oversee complex service projects with minimal supervision. The technician is responsible for ensuring all systems meet NFPA, local, and company standards, while also mentoring junior personnel and supporting overall project success.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections, functional testing, maintenance, and limited troubleshooting on a wide range of special hazard suppression systems, including:
    • Clean agent systems (FM-200, NOVEC 1230, Inergen)
    • CO₂ systems
    • Foam suppression systems
    • Water mist systems
    • Explosion suppression or detection systems
  • Verify proper operation of systems through functional, pre-acceptance, and final acceptance testing.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical and programming issues to ensure optimal system performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct routine and advanced maintenance tasks, calibrations, and system upgrades in accordance with NFPA standards such as NFPA 12, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 750.
  • Manage accurate and detailed documentation for all service activities, inspections, maintenance reports, and corrective actions.
  • Lead and oversee fire suppression service projects of varying sizes and complexities, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Participate in project planning, system design reviews, and implementation to enhance system functionality and efficiency.
  • Conduct site surveys, prepare bill of materials (BOMs), labor estimates, and assist in developing project schedules.
  • Coordinate work with project managers, foremen, engineers, and other trades to achieve seamless execution and integration.
  • Supervise and mentor junior technicians by providing technical guidance, training, and professional development support.
  • Promote adherence to company safety protocols and foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with building owners, facility managers, and inspectors, ensuring exceptional service delivery and compliance.
  • Remain current with industry trends, technological advancements, and code updates to ensure systems and practices remain at the forefront of compliance and performance.
  • This position will require up to 25% travel throughout the United States.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED and 10+ years of related experience, or
  • Associate's degree (2-year technology program) and 8+ years of related experience
  • This position is subject to an additional customer background check.

Certifications:
  • NICET Special Hazards Systems Level II required or
  • Obtain NICET Special Hazards Systems Level II within 90 days of employment.
  • NICET FA Level II or III preferred

Technical Experience:
  • Proven experience with FM-200, Inergen, CO₂, NOVEC 1230, or other clean agent systems
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 12, 2001, 750, and related standards

Clearance Requirement: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship for access to classified information: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance required.

Abilities:
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
