Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:
  • Evaluates the entire department's transportation support with a view towards better utilization of personnel and equipment, effective security of the facility and equipment, consolidating and simplifying to maintain high standards.
  • Develops policy guidelines used to identify possible energy conservation measures and promote utilization of the Energy Conservation Savings Program (ECSP) and Energy Conservation Programs (ECP).
  • The incumbent exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Keeps employees informed of management goals and objectives, as well as of changes in regulations, policies, and procedures governing the work.
  • Coordinates, allocates and synchronizes resources including personnel and vehicles to the appropriate section either Executive, General, Bus or Loaner program.
  • Oversees a comprehensive senior driver's education and training program of all new employees and annually certifications.
  • Oversees the maintenance and repair of the fleet to include the loaner program vehicles. Oversees the proper control, operation, preventive maintenance, safety, driver training and utilization of a non-tactical vehicle fleet.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Individual Occupational Requirement:

Education:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. For Marine Transportation Specialist positions, education obtained in a Federal, State, or other accredited Merchant Marine Academy is qualifying.
OR
Experience: For positions other than Marine Transportation, experience in maintaining, retailing, purchasing, or procurement of automotive, rail, air, bus, or other transportation equipment or services, or in the operation of a commercial transportation facility or terminal. This experience must have demonstrated knowledge of fleet operations; familiarity with Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of transportation vehicles; and the maintenance of inventories and cost computations.

In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirements stated above, to qualify the following specialized experience must be met:

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement :
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:
  • Leading the operation of a motor vehicle fleet; and
  • Advising on the performance of a motor fleet program to include monitoring and determining the effectiveness and efficiency of the program.

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission..
