Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:
Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. NOTE: (You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
Selective Placement Factor Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. NOTE: (You must attach a copy of your license).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing one or more of the following, conducting psychological evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Responsible for evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and consultation of patients with psychological disorders using psychological techniques for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving psychological distress or dysfunction.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who exhibit evidence the full range of disorders in accordance with regulations that functions as an authoritative source of information regarding the use and interpretation of psychological tests.
- Conduct psychological assessment of patients with a wide variety of known or suspected psychological disorders that affect intellectual, cognitive, behavioral or emotional functioning.
- Perform psychotherapeutic intervention or environmental modification based on scientific, evidence-based practice, or other community-accepted standard of care.
- Conduct individual and group short-term therapy sessions, including psychoeducational sessions, using expert knowledge and therapeutic techniques.
- Provide oversight and expert direction to nurse providers, unlicensed psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and paraprofessionals.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The employee must be licensed and maintain a license for independent practice as a clinical psychologist in a U.S. State, commonwealth, or territory.
- The incumbent may be required to work on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
