- You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations individually or as part of a team.
- You will assess work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, DoD and DoN directives).
- You will present oral briefs, if requested, and provide detailed written reports of IH survey findings.
- You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination, noise and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.
- You will maintain, calibrate, and select appropriate equipment and media and conducts or oversees sampling.
- You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible.
- You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns, when requested.
- You will document shops, processes, Similar Exposure Groups (SEG), and samples in the DoD designated DOEHRS-IH database.
- You will Investigate health problems that arise among workers; conduct indoor environmental quality surveys or assessment of individuals experiencing indoor air quality problems.
- You will recommend corrective action through IH measures.

- Experience conducting a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices.
- Experience presenting oral briefs, if requested, and providing detailed written reports of survey findings including identified hazards, assessment of the hazards, exposure monitoring required, and controls recommended under supervision.
- And experience using systems such as DOEHRS and making statistical exposure assessments is preferred.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices, applicable to planning and carrying out all industrial hygiene programs for activities concerned with a wide variety of industrial sites and research laboratories.
- Experience recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood.
- Experience evaluating proposed new work processes and/or materials and or recommend measures to minimize health hazards.

- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
