Jacobs Federal Network Systems (FNS) provides highly sophisticated network systems design, engineering, operations, and maintenance, and offers cutting edge cybersecurity solutions for our customers in the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and other federal agencies. We deliver an integrated approach to network engineering design and network management, as well as full IT lifecycle service management, IT service delivery, asset management, logistics and procurement support, and software/hardware vendor management.  Our network engineers, controllers, and technicians are trained in multiple disciplines to successfully maintain legacy systems as well as insert the latest technologies for voice, data, and video networks in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
 
Jacobs is currently seeking a NOC Technician Tier 2 to join their team at their customer site in the Reston, VA area. This position will be a swing shift position with the hours of approximately 2PM-10PM. Other shift coverage may be required on an as-needed basis.
 
The network operations center (NOC) technician provides surveillance and IP network operations troubleshooting. They  identify, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents in multiple and complex local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), customer networks, Intranet and Internet and other data communication systems. This position acts as information distributors and customer representatives. They operate, maintain, and manage telecommunications facilities. Provide project management and systems integration for voice and data communication systems; supervise installation of these systems; and, provide maintenance and support to customers after installation. Specializations include data communications, TCP-IP networks, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), COMSEC/TEMPEST, facsimile, cable-to-modem communication, RF (including satellite) communication capabilities, and repair to least replaceable
 
Responsibilities:
Dispatching to resolve network cabling and drops to workstation and peripheral equipment
Monitor and Identify network troubles
Troubleshoot and resolve network troubles
Perform courtesy recalls
Ensure network availability and reliability
Manage incident management workflow
Communicate status to customer and management team
Installs, maintains, manages and/or repairs carrier systems (WANs) and their constituent components
 

Qualifications

 
  • Active TS/SCI W/ Poly Required 
  • Typically requires an Associate degree in a computer field and seven (7) years of related experience. Progressive relevant training and/or certification may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement.
  • Professional License or Specialized Training in CCNA and ITIL Foundations is preferred
  • Someone that is new to the career field or occupation, such as a recent college graduate with either course related experience and/or full or part-time work experience totally less than three (3) years of experience specific to the skill
  • Be able to troubleshoot and resolve network issues and ensure the network is available & reliable
  • Extensive knowledge on a variety of telecommunications platforms and IT systems
  • General knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Awareness of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers. Employees may be exposed to potential health hazards.
  • Physical Requirements: Most work will be done at a desk or computer. Use of ladders may be required with the use of required safety equipment Employees may experience extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, and lifting light to very heavy objects and equipment. Duties include being able to single-handedly deploy systems weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Equipment and Machines: General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Attendance: Critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40 hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
