The Software Engineer describes an individual with a minimum of a BSEE, BSEET or BSCS degree and three years’ programming experience with Visual Studio.NET, other scripted languages, non-scripted programming, industrial languages programming, data sources and sharing. Three Harris job families describe the hybrid role of this individual: Specialty Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Software Engineering. Software Engineering for applied machine vision analysis and system control is the leading technical requirement for this role in the automation engineering team environment. This person possesses the skills, training and experience to develop machine vision based programming to detect hard edge objects and soft edge objects that are compounded in an image and individually characterize them by data base parameter specified types.
The Night Vision software engineer works with a team of automation engineers to develop process control concepts into machinery, support/modify software and hardware on existing machinery or design new program controlled processes to meet manufacturing requirements. The software engineer should have basic electronics knowledge and familiarity with industrial protocols and interface techniques . Software development experience should include a variety of computer languages ranging from assembly language to higher order languages to address programming objectives related to automated industrial process control, industrial and biological machine vision solution development.
The NV software engineer must demonstrate leadership and good communication skills to lead or work with a team of technicians, and engineers of multiple disciplines. The software engineer may often serve as the project team leader to organize the participating members of a project team. This individual offers flexibility to provide solutions and support across the facility, interfacing with all process departments.
A security clearance is required for access and control of confidential process parameters, data and ITAR sensitive information.
This individual may have to assist facilities and safety systems support as need occurs.
Minimum BS in computer science with 3 years experience. A BSEE or BSEET can be substituted if the required programming skills, courses and training are demonstrated towards successful applied experience. Professional programming experience is required. MS in a related field is preferred. Good mathematical foundation, applied programming, program documentation and version control experience.
Visual Studio.Net, Access, SQL, MS Office, MS Project, MS Windows, networking and data sharing infrastructures.
This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Strong analytical, mathematical, applied sciences and programming skills to apply towards solving unique process and data flow challenges.
Working knowledge of electronic components and systems.
Machine vision image analysis and integration experience with leading machine vision hardware/software manufacturers and libraries. Machine vision interpretation of layered soft edge objects.
Industrial Networking, PLC and PC based control systems environments.

Hands on technical experience.
