Computer Engineer, Software Engineer, or Analyst with Modeling and Simulation (M&S) experience to work in an established M&S team supporting homeland security customers. Primary focus is on packaging existing M&S and analysis tools for easy use and installation by other modelers and analysts through graphical user interfaces and implementing new models and features in existing tools by creating plugins or scripts. These tools are primarily used to conduct operational and process modeling of concepts of operations and alternative deployments of radiation detection equipment. Software and graphical user interfaces are to be developed to allow government personnel to run additional parametric studies using the physics and operational based modeling developed by the M&S team. The modeling is focused on determining: the probability of encountering a potential threat element in a given operational environment; the probability of detecting and identifying a nuclear/radiation threat object. Modeling will be done to support analysis of alternatives for deployment and selection of radiation/nuclear interdiction material and non-materiel solutions.
Assist in the development and execution of operational and/or physics based models. These models may include radiation particle transport, resource allocation, artificial intelligence, queuing, geographic information systems (GIS), or other modeling techniques.
Integrate new capabilities into existing tools through scripting and plugins.
Performs software engineering research, design development, and other assignments in conformance with design, engineering, and customer specifications.
Research and acquire new data of interest, develop new databases, and organize, optimize, and cleanse new data for repeated access by the modeling team to develop innovative solutions to mission-oriented problems.
Employ a well-defined but complex modeling methodology to apply modeling and measuring techniques utilizing data normalization, data analysis, statistical methods, and other scientific methods to reveal trends and patterns in large sets of data.
Continuously communicate/coordinate with the government sponsor, immediate supervisor, project leaders and other professionals in the team.
Required Skills: To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Degree in software engineering, computer science, computational science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or equivalent.
Programming proficiency in one high level language such as JAVA, VBA, Python, Fortran, C, or C++.
Education: Master's degree with 5 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience.
Active SECRET level security clearance and ability/maintain DHS Suitability
Extensive experience programming in Python, JAVA, C++, and VBA.
Experience or training in one or more of the following: GIS, optimization, artificial intelligence, visualization, computer aided design, human/system interfaces, queuing theory, game theory/design, parallelization, database design, statistics.
