Job Description: A Sergeants Major Course Instructor provides qualified instructor personnel with experience, skills, knowledge, and training as skilled instructors for military instruction in the following five core areas: Army Tactics; Army History; Army Logistics/Resource Management; Leadership; and Joint Interagency Multinational Operations.
Course Instructors provide instruction in these areas each semester during the entire course length of ten months (41 weeks). Instructors provide instruction as defined in the SMC Program of Instruction (POI) and the most current version of TRADOC Regulation 350-70 and associated Pamphlets.
Qualifications:
- US Citizen.
- Eligible for a Secret clearance.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with proof of enrollment in a Master's Degree Program (any discipline) or completion thereof.
- Graduate of the Sergeants Major Course (SMC) or equivalent level course.
- Graduate of the Army Basic Instructor Course (ABIC) or equivalent (must attend ABIC and Faculty Development Course prior to instructing students).
- Current working understanding of: Field Manual (FM) 1-0, Human Resources Support; FM 3-0, Operations; FM 5-0, The Operations Process; and reference Army Lessons Learned through the Army Center for Army Lessons Learned, (CALL) website http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/call/index.asp), operational issues and developments in both the Army and Joint communities.
- Competent in the Contemporary Operating Environment (COE) tactical doctrine (this can be found in FM 5-0 and FM 3-24) and shall possess a thorough understanding of military operations from company through corps levels. Instructors will develop lessons plans using this knowledge.
- Outstanding communication skills. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who can communicate effectively with students and clearly demonstrate the duties as a Command Sergeant Major and/or Sergeant Major.
- Proficient with MS Office computer programs (Word, Power Point, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat programs.
- Knowledgeable of all pre-requisite military regulations and doctrine regarding military training.
Desired Experience:
- Recently deployed, operational combat experience serving as a Command Sergeant Major or as a Sergeant Major.
- Prior instructor experience.
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
Successfully served as a Command Sergeant Major or as a Sergeant Major without any adverse action that could hinder the individuals’ reputation as a Mentor.
