SOF NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR
Provides full life-cycle support for all network services, including the installation, tuning, testing, monitoring, operation, maintenance, upgrading, patching, break/fix, and management of designated network distribution systems and associated equipment, both garrison and deployed, for all levels of security classification. Performs on-site or in-house servicing, repairs and/or installations of customer-owned products. Provides technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment and serve as customer contact on technical and service-related problems.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensure network connectivity throughout the LAN/WAN infrastructure.
Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.
Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements.
Service provisioning, installation, maintenance, and management of the intra-facility LAN/VLAN wiring, equipment, and software itself within and between the facilities.
Analyzes voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices.
Monitors and responds to hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques.
Installs and configures network hardware and software.
Provides network troubleshooting and support.
Support all transmission facilities including, but not limited to: point-to-point circuits; dedicated Internet connections; broadband (DSL/Cable Modem) Internet connections; Internet based VPNs; wireless communications connections.
Support all VPN services, to include the provision, monitoring, and management of methods for remote users and mission partners to securely connect to the NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and JWICS, to include dedicated site-to-site VPN connectivity on a shared public IP network and compliance with and adherence to industry-/Internet-based standards for security to create and preserve privacy, data integrity, and authenticity.
Ensure full interoperability and a seamless connection between all internal and external systems to include, but not limited to, DISN Video Services -Global (DVS-G), NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and JWICS.
Maintenance and management of all elements of USSOCOM's enterprise-wide network environment, including all hardware, software, and circuitry.
Work with public carriers and other Government circuit providers on behalf of Government to ensure delivery of WAN and inter-Component Command Site services.
Interfaces with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during network outages or periods of reduced performance. Develops and implements testing strategies and document results.
Evaluates hardware and software, including peripheral, output, and related equipment.
Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
Participates in the development and implementation of network-related procedures and standards.
Participates in and may lead aspects of major network installations and upgrades.
Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technicians.
Provides advice and training to end-users. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field, plus two to four years directly related experience; OR Master's degree in Information Technology or related field, plus zero to two years directly related experience; OR minimum of ten plus years of exerience.
Advanced and specialized training in networks/systems administration/network administration.
Demonstrated proficiency in layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing; design of complex routing and switching schemes to support changing environments.
Demonstrated proficiency in EIGRP, STP, VTP, ACLs, and Layer 3 tunnels and must understand how to monitor network devices to perform fault and root cause analysis.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Special Operations community, operations, processes and culture.
Familiarity with military deployed environments.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in network administration and support.
Comprehensive knowledge of routers, switches, patch panels, concentrators, associated terminals, and related network hardware and software.
Comprehensive knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.
Experience with installation configuration and maintenance requirements of end-user devices, automatic call distribution systems, load balancing techniques and server operations.
Experience with installation, configuration and maintenance requirements of end-user devices (including desktop systems), video bridges and single/multi-point control units.
Understand change management procedures to include scheduling outages in advance with the Government and coordinating with impacted sites/functions.
Knowledge of cable protocol/standards.
Familiarity with server hardware, communication systems, and intelligence information systems.
Working knowledge of TACLANE/FASTLANE.
Strong troubleshooting background in networking and communications equipment.
Tech Control skills.
Strong communication skills (written & oral).
Ability to deal with customers at all levels in stressful situations.
Ability to prioritize and dynamically re-task response and recovery actions as situations change.
Recent experience with military cryptographic equipment.
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
ITIL v3 Foundations.
Applicable IT industry-recognized DoDD 8570 certification required.
This position may require deployments to CONUS and OCONUS locations worldwide, and may include hazardous duty areas.
Deployments can be of a duration of up to 180 days; this position typically deploys on an as-required basis.
Desired:
Cisco Certified Internetwork Engineer (CCIE).
ITIL v3 Intermediate Certification.
Clearance Requirements:
TS/SBI SCI Clearance required.
U.S. Citizenship required.
