System Administrator - NetApp

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SysAdmin monitors and controls one or more mid-range application servers (e.g. AS/400) by operating the central console or online terminals. The SA studies program operating instruction sheets to determine equipment setup and run operations. The SA continuously observes the operation of the console panel, storage devices, printers, and the action of the console printer to monitor the system operation and determines the point of equipment or program failure. The SA manipulates controls in accordance with standard procedures to rearrange sequence of job steps to continue operations wien individual units of the system malfunction. The SA confers with software systems engineering or applications programming personnel in the event errors require a change of instructions or sequence of operations. The SA maintains operating records such as machine performance and production reports.
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design and ongoing operational support of Infrastructure technologies for NetApp SAN subsystems and Data Domain.
- Responsible for storage Performance Tuning, provisioning and administration.
- Responsible for storage I/O Troubleshooting.
- Responsible for storage design and project management.
- Responsible for performing storage maintenance and support requiring a solid understanding of Problem Management, Incident Management, and Change Control processes.
- Responsible for storage reporting to various levels of management on a weekly, monthly and on-demand basis.
- Responsible for documenting, standardizing and diagramming the storage environment as a whole and any related processes.
- Responsible for VERITAS Net Backup (versions 6.x) and Enterprise backup/disaster and recovery design.
- Responsible for enterprise-wide back-up architecture and recovery procedures using VERITAS Net Backup.
- Responsible for Master Media Server and Policy Schedules.
- Responsible for daily proactive diagnostics to prevent or alert anomalies and resolve error messages.
- Responsible for designing, planning, maintaining a network-wide VERITAS Netbackup Architecture.
- Responsible for designing a backup strategy for disaster recovery.
- Responsible for integrating high performance servers, SAN, NetApp, many different network subnets into the backup scheme.
- Researches emerging infrastructure technologies and processes by reviewing white-papers, attending conferences, coordinating project demonstrations, - and preparing recommendations for business solutions.
- Ensure backups are meeting the business metrics.
- Protects infrastructure resources by designing and executing system backups that allow lost data to be recovered quickly and completely.
- SAN administration skills are a plus.

Required Qualifications:
Must have experience with the following:
- NetApp FAS 3020 and NetApp FAS3140
- Data Domain DD690
- VERITAS NetBackup version 6.5 running on Solaris (UNIX)
- VERITAS NetBackup Master Media Server running on Windows
- VERITAS NetBackup Bare Metal Restore (BMR) for UNIX and Windows
- A 24/7 for critical data outages/restores.
- Strong Windows System Administration skills and experience with Sun Solaris, Linux, and Windows.

Desired Qualifications:

Defining and implementing storage subsystem configurations and recommendations of solutions, storage provisioning, system monitoring, system administration, system backups, fine tuning, system controls, and documentation.
- Experience with three tiered backups with disk based backups.
- Prior experience with designing, planning, setting up a network-wide VERITAS NetBackup architecture.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, maintains data files and control procedures for a complex system of networked computers or for a single group of microcomputers linked to a host workstation, or mainframe. Responsible for system security and data integrity. Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources, backs up files as required and responds to management requests for information.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent

A minimum 5 years of relevant IT/Technical experience is required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
